Question…

Today’s question has something to do with tomorrow’s post, so I would love to read your responses.  Here goes:

Let’s say you’ve just received a phone call that you’ve won a very large sum of money (over $1 mil).  You’ve checked, and sure enough, it’s legit.  But, there is one rule when receiving the money.  All of it must be given away

My question is this:  What do you put that money towards, and why?

Ready?  Go.

Honestly I’d probably give anywhere from 10k to 100k to a bunch of different organizations and churches. Hard to choose just one that is more worthy of that much money than others.

Indeed. Perhaps I should clarify a bit. Updating post now… :)

How about some of the places that come to mind first? Why would you give to them?

Gotcha I’d probably first give to my church, The Mentoring Project, and Blood/Water Mission. 2 orgs that I’m tied to right now and one I hope to do work with in the future.

I hope to be able to volunteer with TMP when they get up and running through churches in other states. What a great org that is.

I’d give it to the Streelight Project in Phoenix. Child sex slavery has to be eradicated!

Tough question. I’m not quite sure which organizations deal with certain causes, but human trafficking certainly is a tragedy that needs to be addressed.

Thanks for the comment, Eric! Indeed, human trafficking is a huge issue that needs addressing. Thankfully, several organizations are joining in the fight to prevent it from happening, and rescuing those who are caught up in it.

I’d pay off my mom’s mortgage & my siblings’ college educations. I’d give a significant amount of it to my church (since I’m technically not a paid staff member, this still counts, right?) :) Next would be my sponsor kid in Uganda – I’d pay for the rest of his education and any food/housing/medical needs, as well as set up a trust fund for him. Then the rest would be split up between several nonprofits I love, including a bunch mentioned here like Mentoring Project, Not for Sale, etc.

    Good question, Joshua.

I have given this some serious thought. I first would be in shock. I would then thank God for his blessing. To be honest, I would want to see God’s blessing shared with many. I would first give back to the Lord, and then see my family taken care of. I would want to help those that are homeless, but truly so many of them don’t want our help, and that is truly sad. I would not want to see a hungry child, or a grieving mother that can’t afford to clothe her kids or provide a roof over their head. To have nice things myself would be great, but what I would get from seeing just how far it could go to make others happier and their lives easier would be better. I would want to give to the Lion’s Clubs of America. I am blind, and have learned through God that material things are not important.
